A NEW BIKE FOR CLASSIC RIDES
The Caledonia is the bike we keep reaching for when we know the odometer's going well past the triple digit mark. Long rides invariably have some smooth tarmac, some junk pavement over backroads, a cutty singletrack connector, and maybe even your own local Strade Bianche sector. So Cervelo built a bike that could take on all of them, do it well, and fit fenders in case the ominous clouds turn into a downpour 130km into your day.
Road bikes aren't only delicate machines meant only for putting watts into and receiving speed from. They're an extension of our soul, of the way we want to see our worlds, and the lives we want to live. Sometimes that means cutting across park grass, and sometimes it's seeing where that dirt road off to the left leads you. The Caledonia-5 is a bike for the modern road rider.
WORLD TOUR INSPIRED
Cervelo developed the Caledonia-5 in collaboration with Team Sunweb to satisfy the need for a dedicated cobbles bike. Keep your eyes peeled for it at the Monuments.
RACE-BRED
Faster handling isn't necessarily better -- Cervelo engineered the handling based on the specific use-case. In this case it's Roubaix. Roubaix is harder on bikes than any other race on the calendar, and there's zero margin for error. We increased the rear center (compare this to the R3 that was raced last year), lowered the BB, and increased the trail. The handling is still fast, but we've added stability.
INSPIRING & REFINED
This is a race bike -- it was designed for and will be used as Cervelo's pro teams' Roubaix bike. Rather than designing multiple versions of the bike with various fit profiles (R5, R-Series, etc.) like they've done in the past, they designed a system that enables a broad range of fits on a single bike while maintaining the aesthetic and functional cleanliness demanded.
STABLE, CAREFREE, AND CONFIDENT
Cervelo have stayed away from compliance gimmicks; no elastomers or funky tube intersections. Their proven library of tube shapes is at the core of every bike design, and these tube shapes all have different known attributes.
You can't cheat physics. Triangulation and the force required to deflect is at the heart of the 'double-diamond' frame design, and has been since the safety bicycle's inception. Cervelo know how their tube shapes behave, and it's a matter of placing them in a layout that achieves the desired compliance based on that deflection. The simplest solution is almost always the best.
Performance Fit
The Caledonia's integrated stem and two bearing cap options allow for stacks ranging between an aggressive 7mm and a relaxed 22mm without the use of spacers. With a wider fit coordinate range (stack) of 580 to 687mm, the Caledonia can be as low as a slammed R3 or taller than the tallest C3. All while looking and being seamlessly fast in the wind.
Aero Cable Management
The Cervelo frame, fork, handlebars, and associated components are designed to hide brake and shift control lines (mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic) from the wind for improved aerodynamics, without sacrificing usability or performance.
